Overview of the program

The Department of Veterinary Medicine & Surgery is a Cancer Center Support Grant core resource, providing research animal husbandry and specialized veterinary services on the MD Anderson-Houston campus. The department is comprised of 5 sections: North & South campus animal resources (housing & husbandry), Compliance and Rodent Clinical Care (rodent veterinary health and compliance programs), Veterinary Pathology (clinical pathology laboratory & anatomic and histopathology laboratory), and Experimental Surgery and Imaging Support (experimental surgery & clinical care). Each sections is directed by a veterinarian; with ten veterinary faculty including, 3 board-certified veterinary pathologists, 4 board-certified laboratory animal medicine veterinarians.

  • Applicants must be currently enrolled in the senior year of veterinary school recognized by the AVMA with an interest in laboratory animal medicine. Interested candidates should send a letter of interest, proof of current enrollment in veterinary school and a letter of support to Dr. Lori Hill at lrhill@mdanderson.org.
Other comments Parking is expensive ($12-15/day) but Houston does have a bus system.
