Overview of the program

Medtronic PRL offers externships for veterinary students and residents with an interest in laboratory animal medicine, surgery, and pathology.

A 2–4-week externship for clinical year veterinary students is available. This may be tailored to the interest of the individual and include exposure to medicine (colony maintenance, study follow up, animal care), surgery, pathology, and cadaver procedures (optional). Externs assist veterinary staff in daily activities based on projects scheduled and self-guided interest. There is also the opportunity for exposure to regulatory, scientific, and non-hands-on aspects of the device industry. Externs will gain a well-rounded view of the role of the veterinarian in the pre-clinical research field and will be asked to give a presentation during their visit.
