PrerequisitesStudents will be selected based on a letter of intent, copy of transcripts, letter of reference and interview. Preference will be given to students with strong academic qualifications and an expressed intent to pursue a career in laboratory animal medicine and/or research.

Overview of the programUniversity Laboratory Animal Resources at The Ohio State University has an available opportunity for a Summer Externship. Our 12-week paid program is designed to provide the trainee with a broad exposure to all facets of laboratory animal medicine and its various disciplines including: research, management, clinical medicine, diagnostic services, training and experimental surgery. This mentor-ship will allow students to participate in rounds, seminars, clinical cases to include interaction with Researchers, diagnostic work ups, treatments and necropsies. Time will be allotted for working directly with a Research mentor which is designed to provide the trainee the opportunity to participate in a clinical research project.
